Matt Felton
Director of Research, gis, & mapping
Matt brings nearly 14 years of technology experience to the MacKenzie team. Specializing in geographic information systems (GIS), Matt is adept at balancing the needs of people with the capabilities of technology. His robust technical background, coupled with eight years of training experience, enable Matt to effectively communicate the value of GIS technology to a broad audience.
During his career, Matt has helped an array of government, non-profit, and private sector entities successfully advance GIS within their organization. A true contributor to GIS efforts in the region, Matt has been actively involved with statewide and regional coordination efforts and has twice received an award for “Outstanding Contribution to GIS in Maryland”.
Matt earned his M.S. in Information and Telecommunication Systems from Johns Hopkins University in 2003 and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Geography and Economics from Towson University in 1996.

Industry Achievments
- Coordinated the development, marketing, and deployment of the Emergency Management Mapping Application (EMMA) that has been adopted by Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and the National Capital Region (2004-2008).
- Co-chaired Maryland’s Statewide GIS Coordination Strategic and Business Planning Committee (2006)
- Received award for “Outstanding Contribution to GIS in Maryland”

- Member of Technical Advisory Team for Maryland’s Public Safety Communications Interoperability Governance Working Group (2004)
